Default 2000 WJ headlights & HID questions.

Hi guys I'm a new member of the forum from Alaska. I own a 2000 WJ Laredo.

I have a couple of questions about Halo Headlights and HID'S.

I want to buy both and I want some input in which brand would be the best and what I need.

I'm looking to buy the halo headlights from ebay I've seen a couple of pics of the different kind of halo's and I've decided to get this style.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=250574907209

I also want to install a HID kit on those. Which is a good HID brand or what should I look for? I was checking the HID kits off ebay because they have a 2 year warranty but I've read here on the forum that they are not good.

Would I be able to install HID'S on those headlights? Would the headlights fit my Laredo?

Any answers/ideas are much appreciated. Thanks!

Tony

PS I'm asking this because shipping is a killer here in Alaska I don't want to buy the wrong stuff and have to return it later.

HHB is the best guy I know on here when it comes to WJ headlights. Welcome to the site. Any pics of your ride?

Xtralights.com has some nice ones for the WJ and you can get an HID kit with them as an upgrade. They have all kinds including the new digital HID kits. I haven't bought from them yet so I don't know how good of a company they are. I'm looking at their CCFL Halo's with a 4300K digital HID kit. Check them out.

Hey thanks Three Oh!! As for the projectors, these have the best light output of the ones on ebay

And when buying HIDS for them you should look for something between a 4300-6000k (they will be whiter, 4300 being pure white) I have 5000k and they are pretty much pure white. Anything higher than 6000k ( light blue) and you will start to loose light output. The link i above is for the 3rd gen version of the ebay projectors and they have a very nice blue/purple cutoff so you will have that blue look without the crappy light output.

Also they 3rd gen projectors use a stock size bulb which is 9006 so when you order your HIDs you'll need the 9006 version.

Look in the vendors section there is a guy who sells great quality HID kits fro a pretty good price, Just remember to buy a wiring harness if the kit doesnt get one

heres a couple of pics of my set up

the halos show up nice at night but not at all durring the day.

Here is the color difference between 5000k and the silverstar highbeams

Here is the sick cutoff they have

(cutoff, side view, the adjustment is a little off but you get the picture)

another view

and a video of the 5000k's in the projectors starting up

Thanks for all the reply's.

Heehawbus - I have a 2000 GC Laredo. So I just need the headlights the HID kit and that's it?

Everything is plug and play? Do I need a relay or anything else besides the wiring harness?

Sorry about all these questions but I rather install everything myself.

I got quoted $1000 for tail lights and headlights at a local shop. And that didn't include installation or the HID'S.

I just want to buy some nice upgrades you know not a whole car!

screw that local shop.. 1000!!! thats crazy, you need the projectors (like the ebay link i put) and an HID set, you will need a relay which sometimes comes with the better sets, estimate that they are $150 for each so round about $300 total for the headlights (for new projectors and hids).

$1000? thats crazy? you don't need a local shop at all, its very simple if you know the basics. plus there are plenty of people here to help with any questions. i installed mine on an '05 GC and thats a pain because there are 2 bolts under the car behind the bumper. your year GC only has one huge bolt thru the top of the light and it comes out.

BlackJeep24 - I know when the guy told me bring a $1000 and I'll get you setup I just smiled and thought "HA this guy is crazy ain't never coming back" and left.

This Jeep I bought a year ago had a lot of cosmetic issues and missing parts. So far I have replaced the stereo, dashboard, door panel, front passenger fender, radio bezel, rear windshield wiper arm and the front passenger one and fixed the cruise control.

So I better be experienced after all those repairs!

I always try to fix all I can since is not cheap to take it to the shop. It's also something that enjoy.

I'm only asking about the lights and HID'S because is a little confusing with all the options out there so I wanted to ask somebody that knows and had them installed.

My next project is to get headlights, fog lights, tail lights, 20'S and HID'S.

yea headlights are easy, one bolt and your good, they take a little vigor to pull out the ball joins so what i do it unbolt and then wedge a flat screw driver in the gap in the top and sorta pull it out a bit to get one loose and then you can get the rest out just fine, depending on your ballast youll have to get creative with the mounting point but other than that you should be fine

Well I've been gone from the forum for a couple of weeks now but I have some news.

I found the fog lights kit at a junkyard and installed it last weekend.

I also bought the projector headlights and LED tail lights for $372 both.

I need to buy the HID'S this week and install everything this following weekend.

After all this I will post some pics.

Default My Beast!

Three Oh Diesel - OK ok here are the pics finally.

Here it is my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0L with 74,000 miles.

I bought this jeep off of craigslist for $4,300 last year with 64,000 miles. It had some damages/problems that's why I pay so little.

So far I have put new tires and shocks, got a tune up, changed 2 coils, replaced dashboard (the lady I bought the jeep from had a big dog that chewed the interior) replaced driver's side door panel, radio bezel & replaced front passenger fender (she also got into an accident).

After all that it looked like this:

So after repairs I decided to buy the upgrades and bought the fog light kit, LED tail lights and the projector head lights (thanks for the advice Andrew).

I installed the fog lights first 2 weeks ago. Then this last monday the LED tail lights, halo lights and 8,000K HID'S.

And after all that here is the final result:

Halo Headlights off

Smoke LED tail lights off

Halo Headlights on

LED tail lights on

I installed LED light bulbs on the front turn signals and on the top part of the tail light (reverse) because it doesn't come with LED bulbs (it uses the stock halogen lamp).

I hope you guys enjoyed the pics and hit me up if you have any questions or need any help.

Here are 2 extra pics:

Andrew - I like that tint I'm going to keep it that way my next step is to tint the front windows to match the back ones. Also put 20" rims when summer comes because as you can see its impossible to drive around with them on.

Sydneyjeep - thanks man its not a chicken! LOL it's a white Hawaiian mask made with feathers I bought at a flea market at the aloha stadium in Honolulu. They are pretty cool!

I was going to guess it was leftovers from the Jeep-eating dog.
