OK..... Royal Purple says that by using their oil you will iincrease your HP by up to 10 HORSEPOWER and TORQUE.
Feel the Difference
"The most frequent comment from customers is how they can feel the difference in their vehicles after switching to Royal Purple. For instance, Royal PurpleŽ Motor Oil typically improves horsepower and torque up to 3%. It also reduces fuel consumption by as much as 5% and typically reduces emissions 20% or more. Performance gains will vary depending on the type of vehicle, its condition, and the way it's driven."
At my next stop for an oil change ill be expecting more HORESPOWER and better TORQUE!!!!! is anybody using ROYAL PURPLE?????

Technically, it doesn't increase horsepower or torque; that's a bunch of crap. What it does is creates less resistance as compared to conventional oil, so less power is lost in the drivetrain, which means a little more power gets to the wheels. You feel more power, but it doesn't increase power the way a turbo, exhaust, etc., does.
Stacey David did this on Trucks! one day and he noticed a significant decrease in overall temperature and noticed more torque. He was the man.

I use Mobil 1 Synthetic on all the Jeeps. Mobil 1 is factory fill in:
Acura RDX
Aston Martin
Bentley Amage and Bentley GT
Cadillac CTS, CTS-V, XLR, XLR-V, SRX and STS and STS-V
Chevrolet Corvette C6 and Z06
Chevrolet SSR
Chevrolet TrailBlazer SS
Chrysler 300C SRT-8 and Crossfire SRT-6
Cobalt SS
Dodge Ram SRT-10
Dodge Charger SRT-8, Magnum, and Viper
Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8
Mercedes-Benz AMG vehicles
Mercedes SLR
Mitsubishi EVO III
Pontiac GTO
All Porsche vehicles
Saturn Red Line
Viper SRT-10
If its good enough for these high performance vehicles, it is good enough for my two Jeeps!
As far as Royal Purple and Amsoil, they use their own standards to rate their oil; not industry standards so there claims really mean nothing!

How much did you pay for the oil and filter change, and how many miles are you getting before your next change?

$44.45, change every 7,000 miles.

Damn, what a difference 3,000 miles makes. I paid $70 the other day for synthetic Mobil One and I have a 5,000 mile range.

I would not exceed the manufacturer's oil change recommendation regardsless of the product. Even with full synthetic oil, I drop it every 3000 miles.
Mobil 1 is about $5.00/qt, and the Mobil 1 Extended performance oil filter is $10. Less $$$ if you buy them in bulk like I do.
A Mobil oil change change can range from $40-$45 for the oil and filter. If a dealer does it, I beleive in this area they get I think $79.95 or $89.95!
I also use the FilterMag RA365 oil filter magnet on both the WJ & WK.

BTW, you can use any standard oil filter with full synthetic oil.
You do not need to buy a special filter, unless you want to.
I have a full case of Mopar filters if anyone would like to buy them :) I beleive they are made by Purolator for Mopar.

I'm using Mobil 1 and I figure I'll change it every 6,000 miles. I am sure with synthetic oil 12,000 miles wouldn't hurt it.

Since I'm not right on the money anyway with my oil changes, I will probably wind up running it to 6,000 miles anyway.
How many people do their own oil changes here?

I don't. I think I have some sort of service plan thing with my dealer because I just took it in for my 24,000 mile service + state inspection and it only came out to be like $70 total.
(I think I get inspections for free for the life of the Jeep)
With service + oil changes that cheap I doubt I'll do them myself unless they start charging more.
(I didn't pay extra for any maintenance service plan, it must just be an incentive for buying through that dealer... my 18,000 mile service at a different dealer was a lot more $$)

if you dont change your own oil on your jeep you should be slapped right across your beak. I work at a quick lube unfortunately and everytime i see a clown in a jeep coming in for anything other than a chasis lube i shake my head in disgust they are basically comin in and saying hey kind sir please rape me and take money that i dont need to spend and when they look like they are gonna say no i reassure them by showing them my truck and then they bend over and take it. At cost a mobil 1 oil change with a extended performance filter for a 4.0 will run u 45 bucks and a dirty shirt from job. be a man change your oil and rotate ur tires while ur at it.

I'm with Blackattack but what people forgot to mention was that in that Trucks! episode... all the fluids were changed to Royal Purple. (Besides motor oil, the Transmission fluid and Synthetic Gear Oil were also switched to Royal Purple)

I put in Mobil1 Extended Performance every 5,000 miles and Mobil1 filter.... i do suspect that this purple oil is a buncha crap, like blackattack said in the very beginning..
and i have no problem paying a guy who has an easy access under my car 20$ to change my oil every 5,000 miles real quick at the shop, while im drinking coffee or just having a cigarette talking to him (its my friend's shop)...
why spend at hour laying under ur car getting girty and oily.. hmm........

I didn't say it was a bunch of crap, I said it wasn't a horsepower maker. It decreases resistance in the drivetrain, making the average drivetrain power loss go from 20% to about 15%.

so what's the consensus, purple = good or no?
