Okay, so now that school is over (:yay: :happyb: :wordg: ) so now I can start the mods that take a little time to do. So I went to investigate the price of my intake and my exhaust upgrade. I am going to order the intake online, but I am going to have the exhaust done at a shop (obviously).

The guy said that I should go with Flowmaster, since Magnaflow is more of a fiberglass-packed muffler and wouldn't sound as good. Anyway, he gave me three options:

$250 - Aluminum Flowmaster with 3.5" Big Bore Chrome Tip
$300 - Aluminum Flowmaster with 3.5" Stainless Tip
$350 - Stainless Flowmaster with 3.5" Stainless Tip

Few things I want you to notice:
a) The prices. Am I getting ripped here, or does this sound typical? Remember, this is NY.
b) The material used. I live on Long Island, which is not only sea-water-locked, but gets salted out the yin yang once the snow comes. Should I be concerned with three years of aluminum?
c) Will a 3.5" tip hanging off the Jeep look bad? I'm going to ask him to make it damn discreet, but should I opt for smaller? Something in the 3" range?

Is there anything else I should be considering?

Do note that I'm liking the $300 setup right now.

What do you think?

Im not a big guy on flowmaster(pretty much hate them), altough others are on this forum, I just prefer the borla sound. Id go stainless, because like you I live in MN due to the crazy salt they use in the winter. I cant say anything about the tip, I dont really know. But good luck, and congrats about school.

182, sounds like he only sells Flowmaster?

I wouldn't buy another exhaust without hearing what it will sound like. I don't want any droning on the highway.

I would definetely go with smaller tips, split out the rear with a Y piece and stainless.

Don't go with flowmaster. Leave those to pick-up trucks.

Well he does sell Magnaflow, but he just recommended the Flowmaster.

I do want to check in with some other shops and find out what they say. I didn't think the upgrade would be so expensive.

I don't want to split out the rear. I don't want to drop the spare tire and do fake dual exhausts. I will be keeping it single.

What kind of price range should I expect to be in here? Is this guy correct? He said it would take about an hour to mod.

$40-$50 muffler, $60 for a stainless tip, $60-70 for install = $160-$180

Anything over that you are getting suckered, but you dont mind paying high prices as I see with the tint.

I paid $39.99 for my Magnaflow muffler shipped and $40 for install. I haven't gotten a tip b/c I haven't found any I liked.

Alum muffler will be fine. No need to get fancy stainless since it will be UNDER your car. Alum won't rot. Well atleast mine didbt in the 3 years i had it.

Aluminum doesn't corrode? The fancy stainless steel isn't for looks it's for durability.

That's not true at all. I wasn't going to quibble over $20 since I saved $150 the day before, but for $100 or more, I'm not going to pay. I've waited this long for the muffler, I can wait another two weeks until I get to all the local places.

I'm going to check in with the local Midas and Meineke, see what they say. Maybe since they are national chains they'll do better for me as far as price goes.

They quoted me $650 for a new catalytic converter installed in my S10.

I'll look up in Microsoft Money what I actually paid at Pep Boys: $97.12 for the part, $141.44 for installation for a total of $238.56 installed.

It was the same brand part too, wagner or something.

So should I continue to check around until I find a stainless muffler and tip installed for $200 or less?

Would I be better off buying the stuff on eBay or somewhere and asking a place to install it?

Do you have a Pep Boys near you, 182? They seem to always have the lowest prices when I shop around.

What's the need for the stainless muffler? I can understand if you are going to have the Jeep for a long time, but other than that. My muffler did not errode and it was Aluminum and on top of that it had a lifetime warranty.

Also... Didn't you pay $100 for tint? Most places are $25 per window. Thats what I was refering too

Yeah, I have a Pep Boys about 5 minutes from my house. I usually check Aid Auto first, but everything is $5 more than Pep Boys (even the Smelly Trees). I am going to check with a couple more places tomorrow and get their quote. If nothing turns up, I will by the parts myself and find a place that will install for no more than $100.

hey, i couldnt find much of anything for the 3.7l motor but i did find this air intake i know its a cheap ebay air intake but looks pretty cool, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/02-03-04-05-06-JEEP-LIBERTY-3-7-3-7L-V6-Dual-Air-Intake_W0QQitemZ140023048283QQihZ004QQcategoryZ386 34QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Although it looks somewhat cool, it's absolutely useless as compared to a stock intake. Unless it's forced induction, the engine cannot take down any more air than it does currently. Having two of them just lightens the air flow between both filters, as opposed to one filter.

Since a CAI isn't going to work wonders on the 3.7 if you were going for an al show setup that would work well, but I don't think the liberty 3.7 and the grand cherokee 3.7 are the same.

Can anyone confirm that this will fit?
