I'm refering to the hyperpac computer programmer:

It is on sale and looks like it will do everything we want it to.

Any feedback regarding this product would be great. I'm wondering how easy these things are to use and if they really do what they claim?

The $623 one? I think the programming aspect is pretty cool, but I would rather get a programmer and an OBDII scanner for less money. Sure, the all-in-one aspect is great, but you may be able to save some coin.

Do a Google search on the product and see what other owners have to say.

Sure we do. As far as I know, every car on the road has had ODBII since sometime in the mid 90's.

We also have what's called the CAN Bus system, but I'm no technician so I can't intelligently explain what it does.

From what I understand, the ODBII is the part which monitors the engine/tranny, etc.. (and throws those P*** error codes in the EVIC if there is a problem).

The CAN Bus is the electrical network which actually transmits the signals and connects all the electronic parts of the car. Supposedly it greatly reduced the number of wires necessary to connect everything together.

Remember, that's only how I understand it and could just be talking out of my a$$.

No, that could be right. I know my '96 was the first S10 to have it. I thought our CANBUS replaced OBDII but I guess it could work in conjunction with it.

WKs have both systems. The OBDII port is right down by your left knee if you were driving, and the CANBUS system is "inside" the car.

Visit Canhack.org if you want to learn a little bit more about it. Linuxkidd has done some minor hacking and is working on LX cars and the Jeep.
